Year of the Snake
Happy Chinese New Year Everyone! Welcome to the year of the Snake! I love a great metaphor especially when it comes to animal behavior and what we can learn from them. I've always found snakes in the most unusual places and I've had many opportunities to ponder why they are in such unlikely places at those times.
To me, snakes represent shedding our skin (when we have outgrown what has come become too tight and too small and no longer fits us.) We have to shed our outer layers to grow. My love is doing trauma work with people - this is my passion - I spend time and energy negotiating with the parts of people that are afraid to shed their skin/armor and move forward in life.
Our strategies and defenses can protect us but they can also shield us from letting good things into our life and our experiences. Not every situation calls for armor and protection! That outer layer of protection can also become heavy and make us inflexible.
I fear risk and vulnerability myself so I understand. There are parts of me that want to stay hidden and stay behind walls and play it safe. If part of you is doing this too, I relate and I have so much compassion for that part that is trying to keep you safe. I also want to challenge you to take the chance of doing it differently. Happy 2025. Let's move forward. I am here for you.
